Hmm… DreamHost vs. LunarPages or LunarPages vs. Dreamhost, tough choice, ain’t it? When I look for reviews online — I know I cannot trust them, the ultra positive ones always lead to an affiliate URL and the ultra negative ones are either exaggerated or were sponsored. Yes, believe it or not, people get paid to write badly about other hosts.

After the small billing issue that “by mistake” charged Dreamhost customer’s with 7,5 million dollar, I guess LunarPages will be eternally better for most even if they were to offer 75% uptime. Still better than to have 9,000$ taken off your credit card, right?

So, which of the two mentioned above is better? First of all, speaking from experience, you do what you paid for, but in this case, Lunar Pages are cheaper. Here is a table with objective features of each hosts:

As you can see from the list, LunarPages is obviously cheaper because even without the discount coupon you get more disk space and bandwidth with their starting plan. The question is, do you need that much bandwidth? Unless you host very heavy website is massive video downloads, I doubt you will use that much, however, what if someone will start stealing your bandwidth or suddenly your site will get on the front page of Digg — small hosting plan just won’t be able to handle such an overload and go offline. This is why I switched to bigger hosting plans. Even if I don’t need all these crazy GB today, I might need them tomorrow and I am not going to move my database around until it breaks!

Both hosts don’t use the famous cPanel (like Hostgator, for example) so it might take a few days until you will get used to a different interface if you were used to cPanel.

Bottom line is, despite the big Dreamhost coupon code discount, with Lunar Pages you still get a cheaper and better deal (more GB, better uptime, less $$). SO, you decide.

Yay, I made it to the final! My theme, ModernMagic, was nominated to lunar pages design contest, but unfortunately it hardly gets votes. The blog itself where the contest is held does not have a huge traffic however, those who post in every forum asking for votes, lead. Doh.

Eventually, like I said in the comments section already, the designer with the biggest online  family will win, not the design itself, but ain’t it always like this in such contests? Since I am more ethical in such matters and not going to beg for votes (I don’t think it’s fair in the first place even though the prize is tempting — $1000 + 5 years of hosting), I do want to ask you, however, to take part in the voting.

Please vote for the theme you like best!

Again, I am not asking to vote for me (of course votes are appreciated though!) but it would be great to see some more neutral activity in the poll by those who vote for themes they actually LIKE. So, what do we have here? This is a nice theme primarily dominated by blue colours scheme constructed from floral vectors and a big blue lily vector at the header. Overall the theme is very clean and pretty easy for the eyes. High quality graphics and glossy decorations.
