Hoping to plan a baby shower that is beautiful, organised and as minimally stressful as possible? This article will help you get everything ready for the big day.
Studies have shown that there may be a baby boom in the two years following the Covid-19 lockdowns as adults across the country occupied their lockdown time with family-making gusto.
For that reason, baby showers are happening a lot more often than they were, with extra occasions being held as new mums have belated showers with loved ones after not being able to celebrate during lockdown.
With that in mind, we want to help you host a baby shower that is memorable in all the right ways. Here are our best tips on how to plan a baby shower at home:
Prepare The Space
Preparing your home is the first step to planning a great baby shower. You could do this well in advance, or the day before, depending on how soon you want to start decorating. We recommend:
- Moving any large furniture out of the main party room and putting it into a self storage unit
- Storing away any valuables and easily broken items if your party is going to be big
- Getting out extra seating from your self storage unit or garage to accommodate extra guests
- A pasting table or something similar will be handy for gift drop-offs
- Doing a deep clean of the room once it is empty
- Making sure there is an easy entry and exit to the space you use, if possible
- Choosing a space with the most natural light
The sooner you can prepare a space, the sooner you can start to roll out your plans and create your vision.
Keep It Safe
Keeping the space safe has previously been all about avoiding trip risks, making sure there aren’t any dangerous sockets or wiring, and generally avoiding anybody hurting themselves during the event. Now, COVID-19 brings in a new element of safety awareness for parties. You’ll want to ensure the space is well ventilated, allow for space between guests if possible, and keep lots of anti-bac stations around. It is also helpful to serve food that is individually wrapped if possible, and to make sure that the toilet everybody is using has plenty of cleaning equipment within it so you can keep going in and refreshing it every now and again.
Order Everything Well In Advance
Food, balloons, decorations and more should be ordered well in advance of the party. This will ensure that there is no delay in getting the items that you want, and if there is, you have allowed for that. You may also want to send out invitations well in advance too, so that everybody has the date pencilled in.
Keep It Simple
It can be easy to think that a baby shower has to be elaborate and complex, when in fact, the most important thing is everybody spending time together and showing their love to the mummy-to-be. With that in mind, keep the theme simple, perhaps with pastel balloons and flowers, or a cute print the mother-to-be likes. Often simple designs are the most effective.
Have A Table For Gifts & Thoughts
It is a great idea to have a table for people to drop their gifts onto as they arrive. The same table can also be used for guests to take Polaroid pictures of themselves, to leave recorded well-wishes, or to write in a memory book.
“A new baby is like the beginning of all things – wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.” – Eda LeShan
There is a lot to do when it comes to planning a baby shower, but the fact is, as long as everybody can get into your house and be with you, it’s going to be a great event.
It’s all about being together and wishing you well on this next chapter of your journey. Soon enough, they will be coming back to visit you and your little one, for many more happy memories to be made in the future.
