Once the clocks have gone back at the end of October those winter evenings really draw in quickly. The mornings are not much better either. One of the first things that I do in the evening when I get home is close my curtains. This makes my home seem much cosier. Of course, curling up on the sofa with a mug of hot chocolate, a great blanket and a fluffy throw helps as well. Putting the big overhead light in my living room on though detracts somewhat from the cosy feeling I want to achieve in the room. And, my little table lamp just doesn’t give me enough light.
The one thing my living room is sadly lacking is a floor lamp. They don’t light up a room in the same way as a ceiling light, they are a little subtler, but they do offer more light than a table lamp. Of course, I don’t really want a traditional, old-fashioned style standard lamp with a big brocade shade either, I want something more slimline and elegant that will add a touch of style to my living room but won’t look out of place.
I took a tour off all the usual high street stores with lighting departments on my quest for the perfect lamp, these are my go to shops where I usually find most of the items that I want for my home. This time, however, I came home empty handed and decided to focus my attention to internet searching.
The Perfect Light
I have to admit that Homebase isn’t often on my radar when it comes to those smaller items for my home but their Tripod Floor Lamp is exactly what I was looking for. Its stylish taffeta lampshade is the perfect complement to the black Nickel finish of the slimline legs, three of them of course, which cross over each other before ending up in a tripod shape at the base. It’s a really simple looking lamp with a touch of elegance that really goes well in my living room.
Because of the tripod formation of the legs it does take up quite a bit of room, the diameter of the base is 50cm, but I quite like this. The light is turned on and off with a floor switch which is nice and discreet and it also takes low energy bulbs, so I don’t have to worry about my electricity bills too much if I want to have it on quite a bit.
Purchasing the lamp
Unfortunately, the Tripod floor lamp isn’t available for delivery, it has to be collected in store, but the website does have a handy stock check feature that means you can make sure your local shop has one in before you go and buy it. And at £29.99 this lamp is an absolute bargain so I really don’t mind going to collect it at all. I have to say that it looks really great in the corner of my room and provides just the right amount of light to make those cold winters evening just that little bit more snuggly and cosy.
