Well it looks like the summer has finally arrived. Although how long it decides to stay for is anybody’s guess! We would all be wise to make the best of the wonderful weather and get out there and enjoy it. For me there are a few things that really signal that summer has finally arrived. And, whilst I wouldn’t like to say that I think with my stomach; they do both involve food. I am of course referring to the great British traditions of dragging the barbeque out at the first sign of sunshine. And, my personal favourite – the day trip. This, of course, isn’t complete without a picnic.
What to pack
My personal preference is to pack all my picnic foods and maybe the drink into a cool box with plenty of icepacks. That way it is still nice and cool when you arrive at your destination. If you are having a more civilised picnic, then it’s important to remember to pack all of those essentials. Items such as plates, glasses and of course a bottle opener all need to go in. Of course, it is all too easy to forget to pack one of the items you really need though. I think I have found the solution to this problem for all you picnic-o-holics. The other day I stumbled across the Joules seashells filled rucksack picnic hamper and cooler bag in John Lewis. It holds just about everything you could want for your picnic, and all you need to do is add the food.
What’s in the bag?
As the name suggests, this is a rucksack, picnic hamper and cooler bag all rolled into one. It contains all those essentials for the perfect picnic perfect for 4 people; plastic plates, cotton napkins, cutlery and plastic wine glasses. The bag also contains salt and pepper shakers, a bottle opener, a cheese knife and a small wooden chopping board. All of these items fit into elasticated slots of can be fastened into place making them secure for transportation. Behind the compartment is a further zip up compartment with an insulated lining. There is also an insulated bottle holder compartment to the side of the bag, which can be detached if you don’t need it!
This beautiful bag is navy in colour with a cream shell pattern, orange trim of course. The Joules decorative hare zipper pulls are also orange. The bag isn’t a bad size for 4 people. It has a 13-litre capacity and is 42cm x 30cm x 22cm. The back-pack straps can be fully adjusted, making it easy and comfortable to carry.
Joules
If you haven’t come across Joules before then you should certainly check them out. They have been around since 1980 and in addition to items like this picnic bag they also make clothes for the whole family, bed linens, tableware and home accessories. In fact, they quite a few items that match the pattern of the picnic bag very well. Their emphasis is on true British style and eccentricity, with plenty of bold and vibrant colours, especially for those people who love the outdoors.
