I think I may just have found my perfect go to gift for all of those difficult to buy for friends and family. Sometimes it can be so difficult to find the perfect present for someone. If they have everything they want already, you inevitably end up buying one of those oh so boring but safe presents. The box of chocolates, bottle of wine or that all time failsafe a big bunch of flowers, for example. Of course, there isn’t anything wrong with a great bunch of flowers but it can feel like you haven’t really tried. I absolutely love books though. I adore them. But, when it comes to bookends I just need something that will hold my books upright don’t I? After all what else can a bookend really do?

When is a bookend not a bookend?

I changed my mind completely on this when I discovered these stunning bookends by MijMoj Design. These can be purchased from Not on The High Street. They are handmade from solid oak that has been finished with a protective oil that really enhances the natural look of the wood. They have a sturdy black metal base which adds stability to the bookend.

And, the thing that really sets them apart is the glass stem vase that is recessed into the bookend. This is just the right size for a single stem flower. Not only does this make them look different but it also makes a really pretty decorative touch to any bookshelf. If you don’t like flowers, then there are plenty of clever ways you could make use of the stem vase. They would look especially pretty filled with coloured sand, but you might like to add a stopper to the top to prevent spill.

The bookends measure approximately H18 x D12 x W20cm which makes them a great height for most standard books.
